*I finished the book like a week and a half ago and I already can't remember her name. If so, I don't think I'm going to waste my time. And the narration.Īnd yes, the epilogue was weird. For a little while I was impressed at how she captured the voices of all those Swiss people who presumably weren't native English speakers, but then I noticed that the British characters talked like that, too. "OMG, what's her face* had a burner phone?! Dun dun dun! That solves the mystery of how Elin overheard her conversation!"Īlso, the whole thing read like it was badly translated from another language. Then 100 pages later they're discovered in a major revelation. ![]() In addition to everything you mentioned, there were several clues described that I thought were so obvious that it didn't even need to be mentioned that they were clues. Please help me feel better about investing all that time into reading a book I didn't very much enjoy :( Maybe Hayler, but he was mentioned what, five times? That epilogue is the final nail in the coffin and I'm mad about it. Couldn't be the latter, in my mind, because they offered to but him a ticket and he went a different way. !<ĭoes anybody have any clue, at ALL, who the f was speaking in the epilogue? I've seen it could be Hayler, or Isaac. It was wrapped up semi-nicely with the murderer identified and the reasons for everything, even though it was pretty loose.!! If that were the end, if I hadn't noticed the epilogue, I would have gone "huh", set the book down, and never think about it again. >! The epilogue just brought everything downhill for me. I've marked the following as a spoiler because I talk about the end: The clues, the characters, the backstory, the reason for the killing? All of that would have been just fine without that goddamn epilogue. I got pretty frustrated with the main character, Elin, and how things were connecting for her but then they would just "slip away." Also, the unnecessary amount of detail? I don't care that she's uncomfortable so she's put a potato in her mouth? Example: Hello.Įxplanation of our link flairs Join our /r/bookclub Don't forget /new!
